Cell Phone Going Green…
May 4th, 2009With the importance of going green seem to be on every lips, are the cell phone manufacturers going to dawdle behind? Of course, no. When the whole world is chanting the mantra of green technology to save the environment from getting further harnessed, even the mobile phone manufacturers and suppliers want to fulfill their part of the duty. In wake of this a company called Atlas Kinetic has come up with the idea of making cell phones using aluminum and glass. The green characteristic of the cell phone is that it has an oscillating movement which converts movement into electricity, thus saving electricity.
Another mobile phone in the green technology is the solar powered full touch phone. This is also a marvelous product which claims to protect the environment through the design of eco-friendly products and a programme of activities for its customers.
Though these might be the path breaking products in the cellular industry, but however, it is not possible for everyone to own them. Thus their scope becomes narrower. However, there is no need to be disheartened. Read further to know about the tips that one can include in their everyday life and can assure themselves of contributing to the environment.
1.Unplugging the charger when not in use can do a lot in saving the electrical energy. You must be aware that only by powering the switch off, the energy consumption by the electrical hardware is not triggered. Thus, it becomes important to remove the plug from the socket to arrest energy flow.
2.Another step which one can take, is to minimize the amount of back light one uses. If your cell phone’s back light is illuminated for more than the requisite time, then energy is being wasted. Keeping the phone at the power off mode when not is use also saves the energy of the battery.
3.Today, most of the phones come with the GPS service. Use it effectively from your phone for directions to save driving time and even the gas that will be consumed by your car otherwise. Replace the phone only when it is most required.
4.Use the alarm available in your mobile phone instead of investing in an alarm clock which consumers battery. If possible use your phone’s back light only during the night and do not indulge in charging your phone unnecessarily.
5.Today, the technological advancements has enabled a person to read various news and information on the mobile phone itself. This is the best way to save paper. It is even possible to use the phone as a digital note book, thus saving a lot of paper waste.
6.Last but not the least is the availability of solar charger. With this one need not use the electrical energy to recharge their phones. If not, then you can also request your energy provider to use alternative methods like wind and solar power for the generation of electricity at home.

A Ringtone Primer
April 29th, 2009Aside from text messaging, ringtones are probably one of the most popular features used on cell phones today as people try to personalize their device. For this reason, understanding some basic information about ringtones such as what types are available, where to get them, and what to be aware of when obtaining them can be important for those less familiar with the use of non-standard ringtones.
The ringtones on a cell phone are simply the sound that is heard alerting someone to an incoming call. Alert tones are the name given to the tone heard alerting a user to a text message or voice mail. Cell phone users like to use unique, personalized ringtones to help them identify when their cell phone, versus another person’s phone, is ringing in a crowd. They can also be used to identify specific callers when the user sets up different ringtones for the various people in their contact list. Thus, the variety of ringtones in use is not just for vanity, but indeed has a functional aspect.
There are many different terms used to describe the various types of cell phone ringtones, but the most common types include:
Monotone: These ringtones are a single note; the audio quality is quite limited.
Polyphonic: These ringtones consist of multiple tones playing simultaneously to form a melody. The audio quality is significantly better than with monotone ringtones.
MP3: These ringtones are actually MP3 audio files; excerpts from songs.
Real Sound: These ringtones are not music but are a wide variety of sounds such as horns, sirens, bird calls, racing engines, etc.
Most cell phones come with pre-loaded ringtones which the user can select. In addition, cell phone users can download additional ringtones from the internet, compose their own, or send them to friends. To download ringtones a user simply needs an internet capable cell phone and a plan that allows internet access.
The simplest way to download ringtones to a cell phone is to go to the wireless provider’s site and select the ringtones from the same carrier providing the cellular service and cell phone itself. This is the simplest method because it is easy to determine which ringtones are compatible with the particular cell phone model used, obtain accurate instructions, and assure that there is no malware involved. Most wireless carriers will charge a small fee for ringtones without any further obligations to purchase more.
An online search on “free ringtones” will also reveal a huge number of sites where additional ringtones can be downloaded. DADA Mobile and Jamster are two such sites. However, it is important to consider several things when going this route:
Will the ringtone downloaded be free from malware?
Will the ringtone work with the particular cell phone model and network?
Has the site observed applicable copyright laws?
Read the fine print. Even with free ringtones, the user needs to be aware of whether or not they are committing to making future purchases for their cell phone.
Not all cell phones are capable of supporting MP3 file ringtones. The software necessary for downloading the files is included with some cell phone models, while for others it would need to be downloaded from the internet.
Some cell phones have a feature to allow users to compose their own ringtone. Reading through the owners manual should provide the user with this information and provide instructions on how to accomplish the task. For cell phones without this capability, the other option is to obtain the computer software necessary for composing a ringtone and to then download it to the cell phone. Data cables or some type of internet connection would obviously be necessary to complete this process.
Ringtones are not a necessity, but they are also useful in some situations and certainly can add some personality to a cell phone. Luckily the cost is generally minimal as long as the user assures they are not making a commitment to ongoing purchases.
Cell Phone Information Is More Useful Than You Think
April 14th, 2009If you have ever looked at a number coming up on your landline or cellular landline and scratched your head wondering who was calling, you are not alone. Though landline numbers can come up on caller ID with a name or even location information, cellular numbers are more guarded. They are not listed in a forward directory for the public in the way that landlines can be. If you have questions about a phone call, see if the number can be traced to find out more.
The area code on a cellular number works in the same way as the area code on a landline number. If you put that number into a search or through an area code database, you are going to find a general area from which the call was placed. After that, you can take the next three digits (aka the prefix) and put them into a search as well. This gives you a town name, or a part of an urban area. That can tell you a lot about a call. Remember, there are some prefixes just for cell phones, so if you have a number with one of those, you know, at the very least, that you were right in assuming the number is cellular.
If the town or state information you get from that number does not tell you who the caller may be, you can search the entire number for more data about the caller. Use the search engines to see what happens when you enter the entire number (set in quotes) into the search box. You can also search through professional networks, as people leave contact information on those, and even through social networks, though numbers on these are not quite as plentiful. It never hurts to try, though.
At times, you may notice a special type of site that comes up. If you find one, bookmark it for future use. These are consumer driven sites that list problematic phone numbers. These could be telemarketers or bill collectors that use hard-to-trace numbers. Those that get calls from these numbers will post them along with any information they got about that number. This can be a great place to find out more about a caller.
When all else fails, don’t give up just yet. Cellular numbers, and information about them, are hard to find and trace. When coming up empty, don’t assume the info can not be found. Look for a reverse phone lookup that deals with cellular numbers and unlisted landlines. At times, these give you number information when no other source can.
Mobile Phone Games
April 4th, 2009Games are hugely popular nowadays among all age groups. Be it PC or consoles, everybody loves to play online games. Their fame have led many mobile manufacturers to add interesting gaming features to their handsets. As a result we can see that latest mobile phones are coming up with preloaded exciting gaming features. The modern mobile handsets are coming up with improved colour screens that are capable of providing sharp and clear images. Their large screens provide the ease of viewing pictures and add more fun to the play. Mobiles come with some built in technologies that allow to play preloaded amusements.
There are some limitations of mobile phone games that reduce its capabilities. Due to the lack of processing power, the mobile devices often rely on good game play over flashy graphics. Moreover, developers and publishers face problem as they have to provide complete details about the product to make a purchasing decision for customers.
Recent inventions in the field of virtual play includes Singleplayer, Multiplayer and 3D graphics. One advantage with the multiplayers is that they quickly draw audience as the users get the chance to play against other people.
The multiplayer functionality is achieved through the support of some of the technologies named Infrared, Bluetooth, GPRS, 3G, WiFi, AI, MMS and Wireless LAN. Infra-red connectivity were supported by older mobile phones for data sharing with other phones or PCs. It was not successful practically as any disturbances in the infra-red ‘line of sight’ could cause loss of connection.
Bluetooth is proved to be very successful as wireless protocol. This led the mobile phone game users to communicate with each other through the protocol named Bluetooth to share gaming information. To share the data globally a GPRS connection in mobile handsets can be used. 3G technology used in latest communication gadgets are quite faster than GPRS. Wi-Fi is another option that can be used for connecting games at home.
Their popularity have increased remarkably in recent years due to the ease of distribution. These days craze for community games have increased a lot. Some companies like ‘Cellufun’ have come up with unique community amusement made for mobile phones like ‘Call of the Pharaoh’. Mobile phone game enthusiasts can find their choice on concerned Websites.
